The Big Ears Festival returns to Knoxville, Tennessee from March 28-30. For this year’s festival, Steve Reich will be the artist-in-residence. The lineup also features Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, John Cale, Television, Oneohtrix Point Never, Julia Holter, Colin Stetson, Tim Hecker, Marc Ribot, Dean & Britta, Laraaji, Nazoranai (Stephen O’Malley, Keiji Haino, and Oren Ambarchi), Son Lux, and others.
Big Ears will feature installations, exhibitions, film screenings, interactive workshops, talks, surprise collaborations, and more. Several Reich pieces will be performed. Greenwood will perform Reich’s Electric Counterpoint, the Ensemble Signal will perform Music for 18 Musicians and the Radiohead-inspired Radio Rewrite, and So Percussion will perform Drumming.
Dean & Britta are presenting their multimedia show 13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests.
Marc Ribot will present three projects: a solo performance featuring music to accompany Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid (which will be screened while Ribot performs), a set with his band Ceramic Dog, and a set with his Cuban band Los Cubanos Postizos.
The lineup also features Glenn Kotche, Mark McGuire, Dawn of Midi, Vatican Shadow, Nils Frahm, Bill Orcutt, and Susanna. More acts will be announced in the coming months.
